Human and Organizational Performance (HOP): An innovative approach to improving learning, safety and success in the workplace

Work as planned and work as it is done can be very different. For adaptability, capacity and productivity, it is important to understand the complexity of our daily activities. HOP is an exciting shift in learning how people, processes and environment interact. What began as philosophy to increase safe operations and reduce errors, is now moving into all aspects of an organization. In this insightful session Marco discusses the 5 key principles of HOP and how they are vital for shifting from a fear of consequence culture to a learn and improve culture. Marco also discusses how Learning Teams support HOP and draw out operational knowledge and actionable solutions

Snakes in the Grass: Understanding why mistakes are more than just mistakes

In any goal, process or standard, performance slips can occur. When workers are faced with choices to get the job done they may take short cuts; and in environments where productivity is paramount they may be afraid to speak up in these situations. With every “successful” practice without an incident, these shortcuts become the new lower standard. Unfortunately what seems like efficiencies can be hidden hazards waiting to strike. Leveraging multiple concepts including Diane Vaughn’s Normalization of Deviance, Marco introduces tools to recognize and respond to Judgement Creep, where the view of a situation and the reality of the situation are very different. This session helps to promote transparency, proactivity, learning and leading by example, which all work towards building a culture of safety and long-term success.

80/20 Coaching: The art of leading through listening

In today’s work-world where leaders shape culture, make difficult decisions, drive performance and mentor all at once, a different skillset is essential.  Through Marco’s 20 years of experience, participants learn the 80/20 coaching framework – five easy to implement principles that help leaders create trust, foster inclusion, draw potential out of teams and shift from a feedback culture to an empower culture.

Leading Transformation: Inspiration, performance and impact through values in action

Character Strengths have the power to transform. A strengths based approach can help influencers draw out what they, and others do well for better decisions, goal setting and productivity. In this session leaders will develop a better understanding of their own personal strengths, how to spot strengths in others, and identify new ways to use signature strengths. Participants will come away with evidenced based leadership tools that draw out individual and team potential, improve productivity, strengthen relationships, and shape change for the better.

Rising to the Challenge: How to manage stress and perform better under pressure

Everyone has moments where they “have to get it right”. Tough negotiations, important client meetings, running a business and challenging economic times bring very real consequences to the forefront. In these situations some people thrive, some falter and some flat out crack. The only difference between success and failure is how we respond to the stress of the moment. In this research based session, Marco helps participants understand how pressure and perfectionism negatively impact our wellbeing and performance, avoid turning high importance situations into high pressure situations, target the zone of high standards, and harness character strengths to overcome pressure and be at your best.

Mastering Willpower: How to change habits for better workplace performance

Lack of willpower is said to be the biggest barrier to making better choices. But is willpower really the issue? Scientists have made interesting discoveries on how willpower, change, and habits work. In this informative and engaging presentation you will learn about what really drives habits, how better habits support better working environments, why good health is vital for decreasing errors, and a simple plan to build new habits and overcome a “lack of willpower”.

Available in 45 to 60-minute, half or full-day sessions

Happy Participants!

It was enlightening to learn about the topic “willpower” and especially through the way Marco delivers it. Marco has a sense of humour that makes people participate.

I have attended Marco's presentations a few times now. There are speakers you want to see only once and there are speakers you want to see and listen to over and over again for very apparent reasons; 1) great topic, 2) relevant, 3) timely, 4) direct to the core, 5) very informative and last but certainly the most important, ENGAGING. These are the attributes I found in Marco from the first day I heard him speak. This is why I kept attending his presentations. From the time he starts, you do not want to blink and not to miss anything of what he will say. As past president, of a professional association in Calgary, I was responsible for choosing a speaker to present at our professional development workshop (PDW) with the six attributes that make you want to come back. Marco never failed. Not only did he present topics that are relevant, he also worked closely with me and the executive board members, to come up with the best title and tagline for our PDW. Something not many speakers will do. Now that I've moved to the National Vice President and Members-At-Large Liaison position, I will certainly recommend Marco to speak at our future conferences in the national level. I can't thank Marco enough for what he has given and shared to our members in Calgary. Marco became the talk of Admins even long after they heard him speak. Now it's time for me to endorse Marco nationally. I can't wait for the next opportunity to hear Marco speak.
